Our Story

The story of Campbell-Rodgers Lumber began long before our company was formed. In the 1960s, Harry D. Campbell founded Campbell Lumber Company, building a reputation for quality lumber, hard work, and strong relationships throughout the lumber industry. In 1979, Harry opened the North Garden location that remains at the heart of our story today. Over the years, Campbell Lumber Company grew and expanded to a total of four sawmill locations: North Garden, Appomattox, Dillwyn, and Natural Bridge. The North Garden mill became more than a place of business—it became home, a place his family was raised.

His daughter, Patty Campbell Rodgers grew up alongside the sawmill, where the lessons of hard work, family, and respect for the timber industry were learned not only in words, but through daily life. Years later, her son, Jack, would grow up here as well, continuing a connection to this place that now spans generations.

In 2020, Patty and her husband formed Campbell-Rodgers Lumber, carrying forward a legacy that began decades earlier. While much has changed over the years, our commitment remains the same: producing quality lumber, serving our customers with integrity, and honoring the industry that has provided for our family for generations.

For our family, this sawmill is more than a business—it is home. It is a place built on family, faith, hard work, and deep respect for the forest products industry. We are proud to continue the legacy that Harry D. Campbell began more than half a century ago, while building a foundation for future generations.

Patty Campbell Rodgers

Patty is the daughter of Harry D. Campbell, founder of Campbell Lumber Company, and was raised at the North Garden mill that she now helps to lead. Growing up surrounded by the lumber industry instilled in her a deep appreciation for hard work, family values, and respect for the land and timber that have sustained generations. In 2020, Patty and her husband, Jim, founded Campbell-Rodgers Lumber, continuing a legacy that began more than half a century ago. Today, Patty works alongside her son, Jack, at the mill. Jim continues to actively operate Rodgers Excavating, carrying on a tradition of his own after growing up in the excavating industry alongside his father. Together, their family remains deeply rooted in the industries and values that have shaped their lives for generations. For Patty, the mill is more than a business—it is home. It is a place filled with family memories, hard work, and a deep connection to an industry that has shaped her family’s story for decades. She is proud to continue the legacy her father began while working alongside the next generation.
